No time to waste...

I have written these posts as they happen but due to being at Silverstone with no internet (actually no power) I have been unable to post them.

Thursday...

Time is going by so quickly and even though it is still two weeks until I'm home I don't have much time left in London so once again it is time to go explore and experience.

There are not many buildings that dominate the London skyline, there are two that stand out and catch your eye, the unusually shaped Gherkin and the other is St. Paul's Cathedral and it's famous dome.

Getting off the tube and heading in the direction of the Cathedral, it is not long before the dome comes into view.

It is quite beautiful but very deceiving, it is not until you get to the front of the Cathedral that you are able to take in the size of it all.

Inside and walking down the centre aisle my mind goes to how Lady Diana must have felt on her wedding day, walking along I found that the building was daunting and overwhelming, I can not imagine how she felt with it full of people and about to become the Princess of Wales.

Once again photography was not allowed (so very frustrating) but I had my camera over my shoulder and shooting from the hip I managed to grab a few shots.

Westminster Abbey was amazing for it's carvings and stone work, while St Paul's Cathedral is amazing for it's architecture and artwork.

Leaving St Paul's I headed to the Monument, the Monument was built to commemorate the Great Fire. It stands 202 feet tall and it is precisely 202 feet distance to where the Great Fire begun, in a Pudding Lane bakery.

On the side of the Monument is a beautiful carving and I was lucky enough to hear an explanation of it.

The beaten women on the left represents the City of London and she is being helped with Father Time and Mother Nature, who is pointing to plenty and prosperity.

On the right is the King and his brother who are being led by Science and the Arts and behind them is scaffolding showing the re-building of the London.

When you know the story it becomes very interesting.

Next stop on my personal tour was Trafalgar Square, a large square with some famous statues including the giant lions and Nelson's Column.

The square was being used for a dance exhibition today and it was wonderful to see the space being put to use and people everywhere.

After a busy morning it was time to relax and catch up with my beautiful friend, Wiz, we sat and had lunch at at a little sandwich bar down a side street that sold nice fresh food. After lunch it was time to head to the theatre on the West End. Wandering around it was interesting to see theatre after theatre all with big name shows, the number of choices is amazing.

We had decided we wanted to have fun and so we went and saw Priscilla... a wonderful show full of music and colour that stayed true to the movie. The costumes were colourful and beautiful and a clever use of props and stage space were used to tell the story.

It is an Australian show and during the show there are a number of Australian jokes, it was quite easy to pick the Aussies in the crowd because the English just didn't get the jokes.

After the show we headed to Gordon's Wine Bar, the bar itself is a funky underground bar, it is dark and fascinating and it also has a wine garden in the side alley.

It was interesting to see such a diverse group in the bar and a great chance for Wiz and I to people watch as we waited for Matt to finish work.

It was wonderful to relax and enjoy time with Matt, as he is working a normal week, it is really only after work and the weekend that I can see the gorgeous man. We finished our wines and then headed across the River to a Latin restaurant, Las Iguanas...
Another big day in London town!
